Capsys Sells To Indiana Firm, Will Still Close Brooklyn Factory

Placeholder

Capsys, the modular construction firm responsible for buildings in NYC like Carmel Place, has found a buyer that will keep its operations in New York alive.

Whitley Construction, based in Indiana, will buy the modular firm, but still plans to shutter the Brooklyn Navy Yard factory in which Carmel Place's components were built, Curbed reports. Capsys' construction operation will move to Pennsylvania, but it plans to continue taking on jobs in the Big Apple, just shipping the parts a few dozen miles farther.

Whitley's purchase resolves one of the pending factory shutdowns in the Brooklyn Navy Yard modular cottage industry. The other: the plant once jointly owned by Skanska USA and Forest City Ratner Cos, that FCRC is trying to sell and avoid laying off hundreds of workers there. [Curbed]
