55 Hudson Yards Breaks Ground
Construction has begun on the newest Hudson Yards building, Related Cos announced today, in partnership with Oxford Properties Group and Mitsui Fudosan America. The $280M LEED Gold building (above) was designed by A. Eugene Kohn of KPF and Kevin Roche, and will be 1.3M SF, 780 feet tall, and 51 stories. Related also released new details (and renderings!) on the 28-acre Hudson Yards project, which puts us one step closer to the Jetsons, with a future-proofed fiber loop allowing wired and wireless broadband access virtually anywhere. There will also be a centralized waste-management system using vacuum tubes and chutes to keep those pesky trash piles off the street. And if another Sandy-like hurricane hits, it will be ready: It’s built above a rail yard so even the lowest level is above the flood plain and there will be an onsite power generator to keep the basic infrastructure running. 55 Hudson Yards is expected to complete in 2017.
