Catsimatidis Files Plans For 21-Story Coney Island Tower
John Catsimatidis has talked about bringing luxury housing to Coney Island for years. Now, new permits are on file.
Catsimatidis’ Red Apple Group has submitted plans to the city for a 21-story mixed-use building that’ll have 311 units at 3514 Surf Ave. The new development, which will total 432k SF, is near the western end of the famous boardwalk, without a whole lot of well-known attractions nearby, NY Yimby reports.
It’s 21 blocks from the closest subway stop. But the neighborhood’s center of gravity has shifted westward in recent years with the addition of the Ford Amphitheater along the boardwalk at 22nd Street, among other amenities.
If residents of the new building find that the walk to the rest of the neighborhood is too much to bear, many of them will be able to drive; plans call for a 254-space parking garage. The 22k SF of retail may also help keep residents from needing to venture out. [NYY]
