Extell Snubs 1 WTC on Megatower Height
Extell’s 217 West 57th St reportedly got a height boost from 1,775 feet to 1,795 feet sometime between last April and last June. The new height would mean the massive mixed-use tower will yank 1 WTC’s title of tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. An even bigger boost would come to the building’s parapet, raising it from 1,478 foot to 1,530 feet. NY YIMBY reports the current permits for the project may not be accurate and call for just 880 feet and 88 stories. The DOB doesn’t require permits for anything above roof height, so it’s possible the spire will see further boosts—and why not, if the deferentially patriotic height’s out the window now? The foundation for the mega tower’s been pouring since late winter. [NYY]
