WIND UP THE PITCH
Charlotte-based National Amateur Sports is eyeing 80 acres in Union County?s Stallings community for a $10M sportsplex, but neighboring Indian Trail and Matthews aren't out of the running. |
What's putting Stallings in the lead is a willingness to help out with the purchase of 80 acres that NAS would then lease back for the proposed amateur athletic mecca. We recently spoke with NAS chiefJames Shipley during a rare moment in his office. Public-private cooperation will be key to pulling off the project, he says, which will offer baseball diamonds, soccer and football fields, and an estimated$14M in annual economic impact to the community where it lands. More will be known about a start date once Jim picks a site. |
