Jed Walentas Issues Mea Culpa As Ground Breaks at Domino
The day has come: Two Trees has broken ground on its $1.5B mixed-use development on the former site of the Domino Sugar factory on the Williamsburg waterfront. The project will include five towers, and the first one is now coming out of the ground. The historic factory will stay, and be repurposed as offices. Two Trees and principal Jed Walentas duked it out with the de Blasio Administration over the number of affordable units before settling on 700—about 30% of the total of 2,300. “Certainly we said some things to the newspaper we shouldn’t have said as an organization, and I think both sides probably think they could have conducted themselves better—we certainly do,” Jed told Crain's about the back-and-forth with the city.
