Hudson Files Plans For Brooklyn Heights Library Redevelopment

A month after the City Council OK'ed a controversial proposal to sell and refurbish the 54-year-old Brooklyn Heights Library into luxury condos and a new library, Hudson Cos officially filed building plans for the new structure at 1 Clinton St yesterday.

The project will rise 36 stories, including 17k SF for the new library and 276k SF of residential space. Amenities for the brand-new library, located on the basement and first floor, will include offices, storage, assembly space and two reading rooms. The ground floor along Cadman Plaza will also have almost 1k SF of retail, according to NY Yimby.

134 condos comprising one- to four-bedroom units will be on floors two, three and four. The larger units will be housed on the upper 12 floors. The remainder of the development, which Hudson's also building at 1043 Fulton St and 907 Atlantic Ave, will include 114 affordable rentals.

Marvel Architects is designing both projects. Proceeds from the $52M sale will go towards $100M of renovations of other branches of the Brooklyn Public Library System throughout the borough. [NYY]
