Eataly Moves HQ to West 23rd Street

Months after plans to make Eataly's corporate HQ and its flagship market next-door neighbors stalled, the relocation is back on. Eataly will be moving from its 3k SF base at 45 E 20th St to a 14k-plus SF office at Castro Properties' 43 W 23rd St. The Adam and Alex Saper company—widely associated with minority partners Mario Batali and the Bastianich family—signed the 15-year lease on Friday, the New York Post reports. Asking rent was $70/SF. The reason for the gridlocked plans? Bickering between Westfield and the Port Authority at the World Trade Center, where Eataly is opening a 41k SF satellite. With so much discord at the WTC, Eataly didn't feel comfortable taking on a new corporate office uptown. But the Port Authority and Westfield have reached an agreement, opening the door for construction to begin at the 4 WTC site, and giving the Italian fare company confidence to move ahead with a move. Now for the not-so-good news: While the 4 WTC emporium was supposed to open by Christmas, it looks like we'll have to wait until the first half of 2016. [NYP]
