NBC's Planned Expansion At 30 Rock Reportedly On Hold
NBC is hitting pause on a planned expansion at Tishman Speyer’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
NBC had previously done a deal to add 90K SF to its existing lease at its iconic Midtown headquarters, but is now waiting on confirmation that workers will come back to a physical location, Commercial Observer reports, citing unnamed sources.
The broadcaster, best known for its daily news coverage including the NBC Nightly News as well as comedy shows Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock, doesn't currently plan to shrink its existing lease, Commercial Observer reported.
NBC owns part of the building via a commercial condo agreement, but it decided against expanding as workers across the country dig their heels in amid calls to return to the office. CO reported that sources weren't in agreement on whether the 90K SF expansion deal was dead or merely dormant.
While NBC isn't expanding in New York, its parent company is growing in a big way in the South. NBCUniversal Media, owner of brands including Universal Studios, SyFy, DreamWorks, Bravo and Focus Features, signed a long-term lease to operate a 19-building production campus in Doraville, Georgia, this week.
The entertainment giant will manage all production and studio facilities at Assembly Studios, a former General Motors plant close to Atlanta.
