AI-Powered Luxury Gym To Open in Greenwich Village
An AI-powered, exclusive wellness club signed a 25K SF lease in Greenwich Village.
Continuum plans to open in May in Rockrose Development’s The Archive at 666 Greenwich St. The wellness club will offer massages, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, Himalayan salt saunas, cold plunge treatments and one-on-one training sessions to a limited number of members.
Membership at the club's New York City flagship, and Continuum’s first location, will be capped at 250 people, the company said in a statement. Those members will wear devices that will track not only their movements but also craft and adjust a fitness plan over time using AI. Upon beginning at the center, members will undergo a series of tests like bone density scans, blood panels, sleep analysis and V02 Max — which examines oxygen consumption — all of which will then be fed into the tracker.
The company said that it plans to eventually expand globally and, at some point, decouple its AI app from its physical locations for uses outside of its centers.
“Our club in Greenwich Village was meticulously curated to both house the leading technology and services in the wellness space, and to do so in a cohesive, intentional, luxury environment,” Tom Wingert, former Lululemon marketing executive and Continuum chief revenue officer, said in a statement.
Though many fitness buffs traded their gym memberships for Peloton bikes during coronavirus lockdowns, gym attendance has picked back up in recent years. While even budget gyms have seen memberships tick up, luxury gyms have seen huge growth in demand despite monthly fees approaching $3,000.
There has also been a surge in gyms that restrict their memberships, like Continuum plans to do. Ghost in Williamsburg screens applicants and looks for “thought leaders, creatives, founders or executives,” its CEO, Aqib Mamoon, told The New York Times last year.
