The Planned Mixed-Use Tower Replacing Queens 'Restaurant Row' Is Dead
The owner of single-story building that houses a row of restaurants in Forest Hills, Queens, is planning to pull the plug on its proposal to tear the building down and replace it with a 12-story, mixed-use development.
Adam Rothkrug, a lawyer representing the landlord, tells DNAinfo that a permit application for the redevelopment is no longer being pursued. An online petition to save the building at 107-18 70th Road, along with its restaurant tenancy, has circulated on Change.org since last year.
Not only will the building stay, but DNAinfo reports one of the restaurants is planning to expand on-site. Restaurant owners have said they were told by the developer that the plan's halting was the result of community opposition.
