Mapped: NeighborhoodX Shows How Insane NYC Prices Are
You don’t need to be a genius to know that New York’s real estate prices are out of control, especially with real estate prices escalating. But NeighborhoodX’s new map shows you just how crazy New York’s prices are by matching the square foot prices of New York neighborhoods to neighborhoods all around the world. For the price of a classy apartment in Rome’s best neighborhood, for example, you’d get a decent pad in Long Island City. Depressing, to say the least, but at least it’s scientific!
"The idea behind the map [is that] NYC is one of the most expensive real estate markets in the world, and it sometimes skews our idea of what ‘normal’ prices look like," NeighborhoodX creator Constantine Valhouli said. We analyzed the average prices for a two-bedroom in various neighborhoods of the city, and discovered that even under-the-radar neighborhoods here are the equivalent price per square foot of some of the best neighborhoods of leading worldwide cities.
So if you’ve ever thought about living abroad and thought it was too expensive, it turns out that you already may be paying more.
