Five Projects That Will Change Central East Austin

Central East Austin was a no man's land for hot development as recently as a decade ago. Vertical mixed-use was barely a concept. More apartments were out of the question to local residents. And the city still struggled to locate restaurants and houses, even on city-owned property.

Central East Austin may never compete with Downtown, but it has developed its own portfolio of major projects that will reshape the landscape.

This WeWork Deal Could Breathe New Life Into Struggling Department Stores

A major partnership between co-working giant WeWork, private equity firm Rhône Capital and department store owner Hudson's Bay Co. could offer a formula to cure ailing retailers' woes. 

Like many retailers, Hudson's Bay has been struggling to stay afloat amid the shifting retail landscape, but this deal could prove beneficial. WeWork and HBC agreed to a landmark deal that included the sale of Lord & Taylor's Manhattan flagship for $850M to a joint venture of WeWork and Rhône Tuesday morning.
