Naperville Mayor Under Fire For Bears Meeting While Chicago Officials Hope A New Door Has Opened

Cook County Board Of Review Commissioner Samantha Steele To Speak At BMAC Midwest

Naperville Mayor Scott Wehrli is playing defense with his own city after meeting with Chicago Bears officials late last week about the prospect of bringing a $5B suburban stadium and entertainment complex within Naperville city limits.

Naperville Mayor Under Fire For Bears Meeting While Chicago Officials Hope A New Door Has Opened

At a city council meeting Tuesday, Wehrli faced criticism from community members and a council representative who said Wehrli hadn't consulted with the council before meeting with Bears President Kevin Warren Friday. The meeting followed a letter from Wehrli asking the Bears to consider Naperville — a letter not shared with the council beforehand."These conversations…

Live-Work-Lab: Some Life Sciences Developers See Residential As Part Of The Puzzle

Live-Work-Lab: Some Life Sciences Developers See Residential As Part Of The Puzzle

As life sciences sites and labs become more residential in character, with outdoor balconies, artwork and high-end amenities, it makes sense that they would finally include actual residential units, or seed nearby residential projects, adding a lab component to the live-work-play formula.

And with traditional anchors and anchor tenants, such as tech firms or large office development, losing some of their luster, life sciences has become, in the right market and neighborhood, a way to not only bring foot traffic, but also attract high-paying jobs

“The life science sector is really blossoming and powerful,” said Berkeley Investment Senior Vice President of Development Morgan Pierson, whose firm is working on the 176 Lincoln development, a forthcoming 5-acre mixed-use, lab-anchored project taking shape in Boston’s Allston neighborhood. “It’s because of what it brings the region in terms of jobs and investments.”

The 176 Lincoln development will mix in just about every kind of use: residential units, including affordable artist lofts, food and beverage offerings, space for a nonprofit arts center, office, retail and lab, all near a Harvard satellite campus. It’s part of a growing number of mixed-use projects adding a…

Developers Are Finding Available Capital To Create More Workforce Housing

Developers Are Finding Available Capital To Create More Workforce Housing

A nagging, notorious, nationwide shortage of housing is perhaps the most pervasive trend in real estate in the last decade, but the private sector has struggled to respond, finding the economics of such housing types untenable for their balance sheets.

But with an obstinate housing market that has seen prices continue climbing in spite of higher interest rates meant to slow the economy, developers and investors seem to at last see a path to profits that includes income-restricted housing.

“Our philosophy is that while there needs to be government interventions, that can't be the only way to resolve this problem,” said Scott Berka,  Greystar  senior managing director of brand and customer experience. “There has to be a private-market solution that can help consumers, but also make sense…
