When 2018 started, people were asking when the Dallas-Fort Worth economy would slow down. Not only has it not happened yet, but DFW commercial real estate had a particularly strong year.

That looked different in different parts of Metroplex and in different property types. We compiled 10 trends that dominated local CRE in 2018, as reported through the year by Bisnow.

Multistory Warehouses Come With Towering Costs, Logistical Hurdles

Overcoming last-mile delivery challenges in some of the most densely populated parts of the U.S. has pushed industrial developers to pursue multistory warehouses. A new report shows taller warehouses come with their own set of challenges.

“Quite candidly, the users are going to have to change the way they operate in these buildings to make it work efficiently,” CBRE Global Head of Industrial & Logistics Research David Egan said.

New Cooling, Computing Advancements Could Mean Savings For Data Centers

A key way to save on costs when it comes to data centers is saving on power, so those who are building and running data centers are constantly thinking of ways to improve efficiency — most notably in cooling, which tends to be the biggest power draw.

The challenge is either to find new and better ways to cool centers or advances in server equipment that allow them to run at higher temperatures than previous generations. Those in the industry are exploring both.

Q&A With Convene's New Director Of Real Estate Peter Sellick

It has been a busy and banner year for workplace solutions provider Convene.

Just this year, the New York-based company has raised $152M in a Series D funding round, acquired an analytics company and penetrated the West Coast market for the first time, opening locations at Brookfield's Wells Fargo Center and 777 Tower in downtown Los Angeles. Convene also launched a new product offering to help building landlords and owners design, build and/or manage flexible work and amenity spaces.
