The conversation about diversity in real estate has evolved in the last five years. When Bisnow began compiling its annual list of women leading real estate, most of the conversation around diversity, equity and inclusion centred on gender disparities, and that is where corporate and industry initiatives focused. Today, DEI initiatives are looking to improve diversity on a wider scale. And this year, Bisnow’s list of incredible women in the real estate sector reflects this, focusing on the professionals who are fighting to improve gender, racial and socioeconomic diversity and make the industry a better place to work for people with disabilities, those who are neurodiverse and the LGBQTIA+ community. This follows from the launch in the UK of Bisnow’s Rise initiative, which shines a spotlight on the companies specifically addressing racial equality in UK real estate. The women on the list range from CEOs to junior executives, those new to the industry and those with decades of experience. All have taken it upon themselves to try and make the real estate sector more equal and ensure it reflects the society it serves. They are doing that by setting up networks across the industry and within their own companies, tackling issues around pay and career progression, and changing the physical makeup of their workplaces, among myriad other strategies.
Bisnow’s Women Leading Real Estate event will return in October, by far the largest event in commercial property bringing women in the sector together to network and hear from a dazzling array of speakers, including C-suite execs on the state of the market and refugees who have fled oppressive regimes to start a new life and a career in the industry. We hope you’ll join us in taking the chance to meet some of the women we celebrate here today, as well as hundreds more. To read the list, click here. |
