Chipotle Mexican Grill, which is moving its HQ to Newport Beach, California, has informed the states of Colorado and New York that the company plans to begin closing its corporate headquarters in those states in October, according to state labor filings.
About 399 employees in Denver and 32 employees in New York could be affected by the closures. Layoffs would begin on Oct. 5 and are expected to be completed by March 1, Chipotle said in both filings.

Restaurants Need To Adapt To The Rise Of Dark Kitchens
Like every part of the retail and leisure sector, traditional restaurants are being disrupted by new technology.
The latest iteration of this — the rise of dark kitchens and the food delivery apps that they service — occupied the mind of Vapiano Advisor and former Executive Board member Mario Bauer at Bisnow London's Retail Revolutions 2018 event.
“Dark kitchens are something totally new for us, and we are having to adapt. We are competing against a different animal now,” Bauer said.
These dark kitchens tend to be repurposed buildings or more often shipping containers fitted out with the kitchen equipment required to cook an off-site meal exactly as it would be cooked in a restaurant kitchen. Diners can get restaurant-quality food without the need for a physical space.

Customer Loyalty May Determine Winners In Grocery Store Wars
ATLANTA — Atlanta's rampant grocery store wars may have claimed a handful of locations, but the region's growth is expected to keep the fire under new store growth lit.
The Fresh Market recently announced plans to shutter 15 stores across its chain, including two locations in Metro Atlanta. This comes months after North Carolina-based natural grocer Earth Fare pulled its two stores out of Atlanta.
JLL Retail CEO Greg Maloney said multiple grocery stores are crowded into tight trade areas across the country.
“I don't think there's any question that we're over-grocered. On some corners, you go even [within] a half-mile radius, you may have five grocers. And that is not uncommon,” Maloney said.
