Large Lease The Latest In Tech Growth
Along I-15 Corridor

In two weeks, join Aimbridge Hospitality CEO Dave Johnson in discussing international hotel investment and more at Bisnow's Lodging & Innovation Series, West.

In one of the larger recent leases in the San Diego market, communications tech firm TrellisWare Technologies inked a nine-year lease for more than 72K SF at Summit Pointe in the Interstate 15 corridor.

According to Newport National Corp. President Scott Brusseau, the attractiveness of the newly renovated property, together with the I-15 corridor's momentum as a tech market, helped bring the tenant to the property.

"The I-15 corridor is home to numerous defense, electronic and medical engineering firms," Brusseau said, noting that the corridor attracted the company for a number of reasons. For one, housing is more affordable in the area than along the coast,…

San Diego Bets Millions On Plan To Turn Skydiving Center Into Center To Help Homeless

The city of San Diego paid $7M in February for the 26K SF former Airborne San Diego indoor skydiving building, and now it plans to reuse the property as a housing navigation center to help people with nowhere to live find places of their own. Critics assert it was a bad deal for the city.

The change from entertainment venue to social service facility could be tricky, considering that much of the space is dominated by two large wind tunnels, and an area around them where spectators were supposed to stand. Locked mechanical rooms take…

San Francisco's Homeless Crisis Is Driving Tourists Away

San Francisco's hotels are facing a serious problem. The city's idyllic image of the Golden Gate bridge and grandiose views of the bay are being replaced by concerns about needles and feces littering the streets, homeless citizens sleeping on sidewalks or in Bay Area Rapid Transit stations and aggression toward visitors by people with untreated mental illness. Visitors are noticing and rethinking booking events and vacations at hotels around the city.

San Francisco's homeless population was down by 0.5% in 2017 compared to 2015, but is about 17% higher compared to 2013, according to SFist. While homelessness is nothing new for the city, hoteliers and local business say street conditions have worsened.…

Are 3D-Printed Buildings A Viable Cost-Saving Solution For Developers?

In the past decade, the ability to 3D-print buildings has become one of the latest, though still controversial, technological advancements in the construction industry.

What was once used to manufacture small objects, figurines and vehicle prototypes is now being used to construct affordable and emergency housing in developing countries.

Developers across the globe are experimenting with the cutting-edge technology, using massive 3D printers to build entire housing communities and even commercial buildings — though sources told Bisnow the technology still has a long way to go before being widely adopted in the U.S.

Facebook, Silicon Valley Quietly Growing D.C. Office Footprint Amid Federal Scrutiny

Facebook has the largest spotlight in Washington this week with its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, testifying before Congress Tuesday and Wednesday. But the company's D.C. office, like many Silicon Valley outposts in the nation's capital, has remained largely in the shadows.

The social media giant more than tripled its D.C. footprint with a 73K SF lease at Terrell Place, where it moved in last quarter, according to Newmark Knight Frank's Q1 office report and multiple sources who told Bisnow about the deal. It moved from a 20K SF office at 1299 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.

Why Sam Zell's Argentina Investment Could Signal The Next Latin American Real Estate Gold Rush

The international business community was not a fan of Argentina for much of the early 2000s due to tight capital flow and currency regulations, but the election of a new president, Mauricio Macri, in 2015 has ushered in an era of economic reform.

It gave Sam Zell's Equity International the confidence to return to Latin America's fourth-largest country for the first time since 1999.

Equity International, Goldman Sachs and Centaurus Capital announced in early April a $300M Argentinian real estate deal. The venture includes the roughly 1M SF portfolio acquisition of a Class-A office park, a mall and adjoining land for future development in Buenos Aires.
