Bay Area Developers, Companies Turning Office Campus Planning ‘Inside Out'

Hear from the City of San Jose at Silicon Valley State of the Market July 26.

Office campuses are becoming less isolated as more cities and companies want to be on campuses with housing that are close to transit and offer retail amenities. That has pushed landlords along the San Francisco Peninsula to reconsider what mixed-use campuses should look like and how best to create campuses that help corporate tenants attract the best and brightest employees.

Corporate campus planning in the Bay Area is part of a regional and global trend toward increased mixed-use communities. “Land uses that used to be somewhat isolated … are now becoming much more merged,” Skidmore, Owings & Merrill Director Peter…

Cities Would Do Better To Attract And Keep Freelancers Rather Than Giants Like Amazon

Amazon and a few other giants might spur economic development in a few lucky places, but municipalities are more likely to see sustained growth by successfully encouraging freelancers in their cities, according to a recent report.

That is because the freelance sector of the U.S. economy is large and growing larger. Nationwide, there are about 53 million freelancers, or workers on a contract basis for multiple entities, Fast Company reports, citing Upwork data. Freelancers form about 36%…

This Developer Created Tech That Allows Crypto Mining Operators To Open Facilities In Markets That Are Hot Year-Round

Texas is one of the hottest states in the country, and that year-round heat and humidity has largely kept crypto mining operators from opening facilities in the area.

That may soon change with the emergence of new technology created by Plano, Texas, crypto mining operator TMGcore.

Backed by a $67M capital injection from Houston-based real estate investment firm Pinchal & Co., TMGcore has developed technology that offers cost-effective mining that is not dependent on climate. Its mining technology uses a two-phase liquid cooling immersion technology that reduces cooling costs by 90%.

Beyond The Bio: 16 Questions With VTS Co-Founder And CEO Nick Romito

This series profiles men and women in commercial real estate who have profoundly transformed our neighborhoods and reshaped our cities, businesses and lifestyles.

When Nick Romito is not overseeing operations of the widely used leasing and asset management platform View The Space, which he founded eight years ago, he is surfing waves at nearby beaches, blasting Bruce Springsteen in the car with the windows rolled down or exploring with his 3-year-old son, Axel.

The 35-year-old CEO is a commercial real estate veteran with more than a decade's worth of experience under his belt managing assets and brokering deals across the U.S. Prior to launching VTS, Romito worked at both Murray Hill Properties and AM Properties, and in 2009 he founded Titan Global Advisors. It was while at Titan that he noticed the gaping hole in the technology available to manage leases and centralize the deal process for all parties involved. Fast-forward a year, and Romito had started VTS to fill that need.
