The Key For Construction Firms Adopting More Job-Site Tech Is To Get Out Of The Way

Join CEO of San Mateo County Economic Development Association Rosanne Foust at Evolution of the San Francisco Peninsula.

Despite different tech solutions to increase productivity on the job site, construction remains slow to adopt technologies and many field workers face significant pushback over the cost of implementation. Construction professionals are grappling with how to pay for new technology while also explaining to chief information officers and those who approve the budgets how these products are improving job-site performance.

Satterfield & Pontikes Construction General Superintendent Robert Kipp said he does what is best for his project team and what helps them build faster. “I've been at odds with major CIOs who say ‘who do you think you are trying…

London Breed Elected San Francisco Mayor

San Francisco Board of Supervisors President London Breed has been elected as San Francisco's mayor, edging out former state Sen. Mark Leno in a close race that took more than a week to resolve. Leno conceded the race on Wednesday as Breed's lead continued to grow. Breed becomes the first woman of color to be elected as the city's mayor.

She will serve out the rest of Mayor Ed Lee's term, which ends in 2020. Lee died last year of a heart attack.

Breed has been a San Francisco supervisor since 2012. As mayor, she plans to initiate a study of underused land citywide that can be redeveloped into affordable housing and to streamline the approval process for code-compliant 100% affordable housing. Her plan also includes building 5,000 units of housing each year.

Bisnow caught up with Breed during the campaign to get her perspective on hot issues affecting the city, including affordable housing and development.

Affordability has been the biggest buzzword in the multifamily industry in recent months, whether as part of the discussion of priced-out tenants needing affordable units or multifamily building owners looking for ways to recoup development costs.

Could allowing tenants to rent out their apartments by the day or week help solve the problem of affordability, particularly as the state mulls the repeal of Costa-Hawkins, California's law that limits rent control? Pillow co-founder and CEO Sean Conway…

Immediate Impact Of June Rate Hike To Be Minimal, But The Pace Of Future Moves Could Adversely Affect CRE

Commercial real estate professionals were largely unsurprised by the Federal Reserve's interest rate hike Wednesday, and many do not expect the move to have an immediate impact on the market. Should the Fed continue to bump short-term rates at a fast clip, however, it could adversely impact the industry and the overall economy.

“In general, these moves are a function of an improving economic environment whereby inflation is expected to rise. Higher rates will increase the cost of capital, but there is a record amount of fundraising seeking a home in CRE and so we do not anticipate higher short-term interest rates to diminish access to capital,” Cushman & Wakefield Economist and Americas Head Of Forecasting Rebecca Rocket said in an email.
