The Benefits Of A Diverse Workforce

Commercial real estate has struggled with diversity, but several organizations have been pushing for more diverse staff and executives. KTGY Architecture + Planning is one such firm and has a board of directors and shareholders from different races, backgrounds and ages.

Bisnow caught up with Oakland-based KTGY Architecture + Planning's principal and board chairman, Jill Williams, to find out how KTGY became such a diverse organization and what other CRE companies can learn from the company about having a diverse workforce.

It's Still Not Clear What The Best Way To Design An Office Is

When it comes to building the perfect office space for the modern corporate world, landlords and designers are doing their best to guess what companies are looking for, but the answer is there is still no good answer.

"We could charge an hourly rate for the conversations we have on what belongs in this building — not the shape of it or the color of glass, but what belongs in this building as a draw," MdeAS Architects principal Dan Shannon said at Bisnow's Workplace of the Future event last week.

Brennan Investment Group Chairman and Managing Principal Michael Brennan is a legend in industrial real estate, responsible for over $14B in transactions during his 34-year career. Brennan got his start in 1984 at what is now CBRE before moving to The Shidler Group three years later. In 1994, he became chief operating officer of First Industrial Realty Trust, an industrial REIT. He was promoted to CEO in 1998 and remained in that role until he resigned in 2009 and founded Brennan Investment Group a year later. Brennan controls a national industrial portfolio and announced plans last August for the 87-acre Elk Grove Industrial Park in suburban Chicago, which he says will be “the best industrial park in the U.S.”
