Office real estate costs around the globe are on the rise and companies are feeling the squeeze in both budget and space. 

Annual costs per workstation in prime office space has increased an estimated 1.5% globally over the last year, driven primarily by growth in the Americas. New York and Silicon Valley both show increases of 6% from the year prior.

7 Items In The GOP's Combined Tax Bill That Could Affect Real Estate

Republican leaders in both the House and Senate reached a tentative agreement Wednesday, merging their proposed tax reform bills. It was a major milestone in President Donald Trump's push to overhaul the U.S. tax system.

GOP lawmakers are set to vote on the combined bill as early as next week, according to CNN. If approved by the full Congress, the new tax policy could have strong implications for the commercial real estate market, with several experts regarding the bill as highly favorable to the industry at large. Congressional leaders expect a vote before the chambers recess for Christmas.

Frank Lowy's Journey From War-Torn Europe To Westfield's $16B Sale

The ballroom of the Grosvenor House Hotel in London was packed with 1,300 raucous property folk, who had been drinking for a few hours and were celebrating with their friends.

But when Westfield's Sir Frank Lowy got up to make a speech and pick up a lifetime achievement award from Property Week in 2012, the room fell quiet and then silent as he told a remarkable and eloquent tale.

“Many of you are familiar with my background as a survivor of the Nazi era,” Czechoslovakia-born Lowy said. “Many of my family perished, including my father, and you can imagine the dark days I experienced as a young boy trying to survive with my mother in Eastern Europe during the war.”
