Earthquakes, fires, drought and flooding are a part of living in California, but the Golden State may be facing its biggest crisis through a problem of its own making. Population and job growth are outpacing housing. Rents and housing prices are rising, and the middle class is getting squeezed out.

This WeWork Deal Could Breathe New Life Into Struggling Department Stores

A major partnership between co-working giant WeWork, private equity firm Rhône Capital and department store owner Hudson's Bay Co. could offer a formula to cure ailing retailers' woes. 

Like many retailers, Hudson's Bay has been struggling to stay afloat amid the shifting retail landscape, but this deal could prove beneficial. WeWork and HBC agreed to a landmark deal that included the sale of Lord & Taylor's Manhattan flagship for $850M to a joint venture of WeWork and Rhône Tuesday morning.
