Imagine knowing exactly what types of people are walking down a certain street on any given day. Do most of those people visit the coffee shop or the weed shop? Are they millennials or boomers? Do they shop at Nordstrom's or are they more Endless Knot kind of people?

Information like that could drive decisions on where to place retail stores, restaurants and even office space and multifamily housing.

The more a business knows about the habits of passers-by, the better it can be positioned to be where the buyers already exist. That is just one of the amazing uses of data mining that is becoming available in “smart cities”…

Automation and robots are expected to claim 800 million jobs by 2030, and some robots are even starting to look like humans. Hanson Robotics created Sophia, a human-like robot that can make 62 facial expressions, and Sophia received Saudi Arabian citizenship in 2017.

While we may be a long way from human-like robots joining the general population, there is already clear evidence that lesser robots are taking their place in society.

How Trump's Proposed Steel Tariff Could Slow The Pace Of U.S. Construction

President Donald Trump's announcement Thursday that he plans to levy a 25% tariff on imported steel could significantly impact the price of one of the most common materials used in the construction of commercial buildings, putting more pressure on already-high construction costs and potentially preventing some projects from breaking ground.

“It will 100% have an effect," said Hornig Capital Partners Managing Partner Daren Hornig, a New York City developer. "Right now, it's tough making deals pencil to begin with. A lot of times when you're looking at development opportunities, it's the cost of construction that just knocks you out of the game because the cost is too high."

Rebuilding Over And Over: Why California Can't Stop Developing In High-Risk Areas

When the October wildfire crept its way up a mountainside toward his Anaheim Hills home, Saeed Yazdianpour took his garden hose and tried to battle the blaze.

No matter how much water he sprayed at the orange flames, the wildfire kept growing, eating the vegetation, spreading and consuming everything in its path. Yazdianpour said as the fire grew closer, he dropped the hose, ran inside and called firefighters. His roof caught fire.
