Seattle's 12th Man Isn't Discouraged

There's no sugarcoating what happened in the heartbreaking last minute of the game last night. But Seahawks fans are loyal. If you can be in the Super Bowl twice in a row, three times isn't out of the question.

Mortenson Construction made a point of showing its 12th Man pride during the game at its main office in Kirkland.

And at the Hill 7 hotel, office and parking garage project. Mortenson is building the project for Touchstone in the Denny Triangle area of downtown Seattle.

We will give JLL Americas's Roger Staubach credit for calling the game this year. (Last year, he predicted that team from Colorado would win.) JLL also provided some comparative office marker stats for Seattle vs Boston. Seattle's the clear winner in office vacancies, 10.7% compared with 14.7%, while direct average rent is slightly higher for Boston at $31.74/SF vs. $31.60/SF. Also worth noting: NerdWallet ranked the Greater Seattle area as the second-best place for STEM graduates, and Fast Company voted it the smartest city in North America.

Blachard Plaza Trades for $122M

The Puget Sound Business Journal reports the AFL-CIO Building Investment Trust has acquired Blanchard Plaza for more than $122M; it traded hands back in '06 for roughly half that. Besides the simple passage of time, since then Amazon inked a deal to occupy the building last year that runs for roughly 11 more years. Shorenstein sold the building, which is near the 4.1M SF campus that Amazon is developing, to the union-backed trust.

NY Developer Plans MF Property Next to '50 Shades' Building

Douglaston Development of NYC is proposing a 50-story hotel and residential tower at Fifth Avenue and Virginia Street, the Puget Sound Business Journal reports. That's the current site of the Icon Grill and next to Escala (pictured), which is known worldwide these days as the setting for the book Fifty Shades of Grey (and soon to be even better known for it, since the building is the setting for the movie, too). The new building would have 360 residential units and 155 hotel rooms.
