Whether Luxury Or Affordable, Florida Is Building Senior For The Baby Boomer Wave

OceanLand Investments President Jean Francois Roy on South Florida State of Senior Living & Healthcare July 17

Riverwalk Residences of Las Olas looks like so many other sparkling luxury condos in South Florida. The 42-story project in downtown Fort Lauderdale will include five-star restaurants with renowned chefs, a state-of-the-art fitness center and a gourmet market on the ground floor.

But its 401 units will also include 152 assisted living residences and 57 memory care units as the developer, Ocean Land Investments, braces for an influx of aging baby boomers.

"Baby boomers my age want less headaches in their life," Ocean Land Investments founder Jean Francois Roy said. "Many of us have sold our homes and downsized into 3K SF condominiums and will continue to downsize as we age," Roy…

Turkish Billionaire Developing Florida's Tallest Skyscraper Says More Are Coming

Developer Bekir Okan made his billions in Turkey, but he is spending some of that fortune in Miami, where he is developing the $300M Okan Tower, which was inspired by the shape of a tulip. At 890 feet tall, it will eclipse Florida's current tallest tower, the 868-foot Panorama Tower, which opened this month.

Bisnow caught up with Okan via email to discuss his project and future plans in Miami. Bisnow: Tell me about yourself. How did you go from being a math teacher to a developer? Bekir Okan: I have been a businessman…

The Boring City Where Johnny Depp Grew Up Is Now A Real Estate Hot Spot

The NSA Has 8 Spying Hubs In Major American Cities

Though the National Security Agency is now well known for its vast network of digital surveillance, a new report from The Intercept has revealed eight of its most crucial pieces of real estate.

The NSA has a long and involved partnership with AT&T, one of the largest carriers of internet and telephone communications in the world, as first reported by the New York Times in 2015. Of the thousands of AT&T properties, The Intercept identified eight buildings that are used as "backbone" and/or "peering" facilities by the company and the NSA.

These facilities house and pass on troves of data, from AT&T customers and their competitors, as it passes across the country and through it from one foreign land to another. All the while, the NSA monitors the data as it passes through and accesses communication that possesses certain keywords or comes from flagged nations like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and other "regions of interest."

You Can't Handle The Truth: Debunking 6 Popular Commercial Real Estate Myths

The commercial real estate industry is evolving, but not everyone is keeping up.

What was the norm only a decade ago has been upended by two key factors: The use of technology has made processes, investment strategies and properties more efficient and the health of the U.S. economy is experiencing its second-longest period of economic expansion in history.

These factors combined have worked together to change the built environment, transforming those trends that were previously the norm. To bring commercial real estate owners, investors and tenants up to date, Bisnow debunks six common misconceptions that professionals in the industry still operate under, according to studies conducted by Newmark Knight Frank researchers across the country in “Myth vs. Reality: Evaluating Popular Misconceptions in Commercial Real Estate.”

What Happens When Women Run A Worldwide Company?

Forty years ago, Australian entrepreneur Alfred Moufarrige had an idea. The founder of what would eventually become global real estate tech and virtual office company Servcorp was looking to minimize the operating costs of a planned property startup company.

Premium office space, a secretary and a receptionist were taking a huge chunk out of his profits. To cease hemorrhaging money, Moufarrige drew out a plan for a coworking space in hopes of getting another business to share office space and costs; this was long before coworking was commonplace in the global office market. The concept was so successful that Moufarrige abandoned his original pursuit of a property company and chose instead to develop his coworking business, now Servcorp, full time.
