Climate Experts: Don't Flee Florida,
But Do Price Your Risks

“Don’t get too depressed," said Billy Grayson, the executive director of the Urban Land Institute’s Center for Sustainability and Economic Performance. 

As Miami has become the poster child for the threat of climate change, residents may fantasize about abandoning the coast and running for the literal hills.

“You could say the same thing about New York or Hong Kong or Shenzhen or Boston,” Grayson told Bisnow. All are coastal cities facing major threats related to extreme weather and sea level rise.

“They’re also exceptional places to live, work and play," Grayson said. "They’re good investments for the foreseeable future. People still want to be in the global centers of finance and real estate. Bills Would Make Investing In Texas' Opportunity Zones More Rewarding

Texas could soon add state incentives on top of the federal ones in opportunity zones.

House Bill 1000, dubbed the Texas Rural and Opportunity Zone Jobs Act, calls for the creation of a state-regulated fund to spur capital investment and job growth in rural communities and qualified opportunity zones. It would provide $35M in insurance tax credits to funds in return for economic stimulus and job creation. 

It is the most active of the four opportunity zone-related bills filed in Texas this legislative session. The House bill overwhelmingly passed (115-22) on the final vote Tuesday.

From Red Light District To Commercial Real Estate Potential: Can Bachman Lake Take The Next Step?

 

DALLAS-FORT WORTH — The heart of Dallas resident Roxan Staff hangs heavy for a teenager she never met. 

Several months ago, authorities discovered a 14-year-old girl, suffering from bullet wounds, inside a Bachman Lake area apartment complex — not far from where Staff and her husband operated an American Bank branch in Northwest Dallas.

The local media's coverage came and went, but Staff, like other Bachman Lake advocates, took the news hard.

Staff has been praying for urban renewal, a drop in crime and commercial real estate development in Bachman Lake for half of her life.
