Despite efforts to prop it up, and tentative reopened local economies, the restaurant industry is suffering a historic contraction. Even if the health crisis ebbs in the coming months, experts say the closure of restaurants will not, putting a huge chunk of empty space on the market.

‘This Isn’t Just About Filling A Quota’: How CRE Execs Are Thinking About Diversity And Inclusion

Commercial real estate, like many other industries, has a diversity problem. The outcry to address that problem has intensified this year, in the wake of George Floyd’s death and public protests that have highlighted the systemic barriers affecting minorities and people of color.

In CRE, there is genuinely a strong business case for introducing diversity and inclusion initiatives within an organization, according to McCarthy Building Cos. Diversity and Community Outreach Director Kamecia Mason.

Hospital Systems Pause Expansion Activity As Retailization Continues

 

HOUSTON — Houston's reputation as a hospital city is well-cemented, thanks to the Texas Medical Center, a collection of universities and a growing life sciences sector.

All the large healthcare systems have been very active over the past decade, opening up satellite hospitals in neighborhoods with growing residential populations. But much of that activity came to a halt during the second quarter of 2020, as the demands of the coronavirus pandemic became a priority.

“I would say, essentially every healthcare system had some expansion plans that were postponed. I mean, literally all of them,” JLL Region Lead, Healthcare, Life Sciences and Higher Education Chris Wadley told Bisnow.
