Desperately Seeking Retail
The recession might be over, but the caution it inspired in CRE investors is still around. (There are even some lenders who still check their closets for ghosts.) Hanley Investment Group prez Ed Hanley tells us that retail investors in SoCal these days are still looking for the safe bets.
In other words, they're looking for single-tenant net-leased properties and grocery-anchored shopping centers. (No matter what the economic climate, people still need to buy jelly.) Those properties appeal to a broad spectrum of investors who are still reluctant to put their money in riskier places like individual stocks, Ed says. At the same time, they provide for a return in the current low-interest environment.
