Jonesin’ for more JLL? We also chatted with the firm's OC brokerage leader, Jeff Ingham. He was a top producer in SoCal for JLL before being named to the post in September '09. In the 2.5 years that he’s been running things, Jeff’s been beefing up the roster. Since January of last year, he’s added seven “transaction leads” (you may know them by their Elvish name, "brokers"), and expects to bring on more over the next several months. “We’re going through a big ramp up now,” he says, growing in agency and industrial business to line up with the firm’s leadership in tenant rep. Michelle Schierberl came in to head up retail investment sales and Joe Leon for multifamily sales, as well as Greg Puccinelli, James Estrada, and Jay Nugent on the agency side. Jeff tells us he’d also like to boost vertical lines such as healthcare, government, and development.

Jeff and JLL’s Tom Murphy—who played for several MLB teams (including the Angels, lifetime 3.78 ERA) from ’68 to ’79 at Dodger... err, Angel Stadium. Last year JLL’s Orange County brokers completed some 4.5M SF of leases locally and internationally, including SoCal’s largest office lease for '11. Jeff tells us that even during the downturn, the office has recorded year-over-year growth from a market share, as well as general revenue perspective. “My expectation is this year, our total square footage leased will be up compared to last year.” JLL is working on several confidential assignments in the area exceeding 100k SF each, as well as marketing properties for Lincoln Properties, LaSalle Investment Management, Hines, and a real estate fund managed by Oaktree Capital Management.

The Orange County office counts 125 employees (unfortunately they couldn’t all fit into the conference room), including execs Wade and Ronda Clark, Chris Casey, Joe, Michelle, and Dave Prolo. 35 report to the Irvine corporate office. Under JLL’s player-coach format, Jeff continues to work on tenant rep deals besides leading the OC market. The flight to quality shrank the traditional gap between Class-A and B rental rates, but looking ahead, he expects to see some upward price pressure for “top-notch facilities” and a "greater disparity in rents." Outside of work, Jeff’s a fifth-generation Californian who is married to his high-school sweetheart and enjoys spending time with family, including three kids ages 1 to 9. A few of their activities: traveling, boating, snowboarding, and Boy Scouts.
