The Latest in CRE Sports News
The 2013 Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition (which we peruse for research purposes) featured swimwear from two Orange County companies, Billabong and Rip Curl. That got us thinking: how much office space swimsuit companies occupy in OC. Quite a bit: nearly 2M SF, according to the Irvine office of JLL. Roughly 750k SF is taken up by Huntington Beachs QuicksilverRoxy, with 15 other companies accounting for the rest. Orange County is a natural location for swimwear-related brands due to the high concentration of creative talent, JLL VP Mitchell Lundquist(seen catching a wave) tells us. Swimsuit companies are located throughout the county, with concentrations in Irvine and Costa Mesa, but also Cypress, Laguna Hills, and Anaheim.
Sports and CRE also cross paths in the form of the SmartStop-Mountain Khakis Professional Cycling Team, which is ready for the 2013 season. OC-based self-storage specialist Strategic Storage Trust (SmartStop) is a sponsor of the team, which finished second in the country last year in USA Cyclings season-long National Criterium Calendar competition, bested only by international powerhouse United Health Care team. This year SmartStop-Mountain Khakis signed Canadian national criterium champion Ben Chaddock.
