26-Story Condo Project May Replace OC’s Museum Of Art
Related California has proposed replacing the Orange County Museum of Art building at 850 San Clemente Dr in Newport Beach with a 26-story condo tower. The OC art museum plans to move to Segerstrom Center for the Arts, next to the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa. The current Museum of Art was built in 1977.
The condo tower would include 47 two-bedroom, 2.5-bath condos, and 53 three-bedroom, 3.5-bath condos, ranging from 1,750 SF to nearly 5k SF. Most units would have private balconies, reports the Orange County Register. The 295-foot tower would be one of the tallest buildings in OC. Only three buildings top that height: an office tower at 520 Newport Center Dr (315 feet); the City Tower in Orange (302 feet); and Irvine Co’s office tower at 650 Newport Center Dr (295 feet).
Newport Beach city officials have a public meeting tonight at 6pm in the City Center Community room at 100 Civic Center Dr to get public comments on the scope of an environmental report for this project and other environmental concerns. [OCR]
