New Walt Disney World Projects To Follow In 2018

The Walt Disney Co. is in the midst of more than $1B in capital spending worldwide, much of which will be to upgrade its theme parks. That includes a  number of new attractions and experiences in Orlando, the Orlando Business Journal reports.

In 2018, at least five major projects will probably start work in Florida's Walt Disney World.

One will be a Star Wars hotel. Details are still sparse, but the company is planning to develop a hotel with an intense Star Wars theme.

Disney also is preparing to build Tron Coaster, probably a version of the Tron Lightcycle Power Run in Shanghai Disneyland, which is already up and running in that park.

At Epcot, a Ratatouille ride is in the planning stages and a Guardians of the Galaxy ride that will also be a roller coaster-style attraction is being planned.

A new gondola system, Disney Skyliner, is also in the works.

The exact timing for any of these has not been disclosed by the entertainment giant, but typically the company spaces out the introduction of major new attractions over several years, the better to draw return visitors.
