Harkins Builders' Wood-Framed Adventures
Harkins Builders division manager Steve Young tells us the Media office recently started four multifamily projects totaling 186 units and $25.8M. Each includes Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) tax credits. The Media team is also building the $27M Joint Armed Forces Reserve Center in Newark, Del. for the Delaware National Guard. That’s a 109k SF structural steel building. Also ongoing are the Delaware County Fairgrounds public housing project in Chester (there’s Steve standing in front of it) and a 288-unit market-rate garden project in Harrisburg for Chesapeake Realty Partners (both wood frame). That’s Harkins’ specialty: in the last five years, it has built 6,800 wood-frame multifamily units, totaling nearly $800M. And it has 2,000 units in renovation and new construction from Richmond, Va. to Allentown, Pa. Total wood-frame volume in Pennsylvania this year: $63.3M, and 545 units.
