Net Zero's the Next Big Green Thing
What was it Shakespeare said about sustainability? "You ain't seen nothing yet." (Really, that's in Hamlet somewhere.) There'll be a lot more about sustainability at Bisnow's Philadelphia Property Management & Sustainability Summit at the Ritz-Carlton on Nov. 6. Sign up today.
The next big thing in sustainable building practices will be buildings that are Net Zero Energy (NZE), and it's going to be done in Philadelphia, Liberty Property Trust director of sustainability Marla Thalheimer tells us. That means the building will produce the same amount of energy it uses in a year by optimized construction, an operational energy budget, and the use of renewables to produce energy on site. (You could have employees work at stationary bikes.)
Marla adds that NZE will absolutely be done in Philly (if it's not already) due to the fact that the city's home to some of the nation's best designers and consultants, and numerous companies in the region that support sustainable practices. (Never underestimate the power of cheerleaders.) There are also organizations like DVGBC and the EEB Hub who educate and support green building innovation. Marla's going be a panelist at our summit. Go on, sign up.
