Student Housing: Enter If You Dare
August 1, 2012
There’s nothing like a hot property type to draw a crowd (free ice cream can also do the trick if you're really desperate). About 300 of you were joined us yesterday for the Bisnow Philadelphia Student Housing & Higher Education Summit at the Union League Club. We found out how universities, and the real estate companies that love them, plan to meet rising demand for student housing. |
The first panel discussed trends like tech transfer, space, and campus control issues when working with an outside developer. Sponsor Ballard Spahr’s Matthew McClure, who moderated, UPenn's Paul Sehnert, LaSalle's Bill DeVito, and Temple's Ken Lawrence. |
The next panel focused on the real estate of student housing, agreeing the sector is not for amateurs (or anyone with a pre-existing heart condition). Those who’ll succeed are knowledgeable developers that create purpose-built buildings, either on their own or in with the university community. Here are McGladrey’s Beryl Simonson, who moderated, GMH Capital Partners’ Gary Holloway Jr, Campus Apartments’ David Adelman, and Fletcher Thompson’s Patrick Curley. McGladrey and Fletcher Thompson were sponsors. |
