Museum Of The American Revolution Opens Its Plaza Months Early
The Museum of the American Revolution's plaza will have its grand opening Sept. 15, months ahead of the opening of the museum itself.
April 19, 2017, is the scheduled opening of the museum, to coincide with the 232nd anniversary of the "Shot Heard 'Round The World" and the first day of fighting in our war for independence. The outdoor plaza at the corner of 3rd and Chestnut will feature authentic cannons from the war and a limestone engraving of a portion of the Declaration of Independence, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The opening will take place at 9:45am and feature the Philly POPS Festival Brass quintet and a Benjamin Franklin impersonator. Once the museum opens in earnest, the plaza is expected to host outdoor events. The Pennsylvania bluestone and brick plaza was designed by OLIN Landscape Architects, and the museum was designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects. [PBJ]
