Despite Controversy, Point Breeze Residential Project Gets Green Light
The Philadelphia Planning Commission has approved a variance to facilitate the development of the 46-unit Point Breeze as a residential property, despite vocal opposition to it at the commission's meeting. Currently the site is vacant, and zoned ICMX, or industrial commercial mixed-use. The proposed development at 2012-2020 Wharton St has been a bone of contention between Point Breeze residents and the developer and architect, JKR Partners, since it was proposed in 2013, Curbed reports. Opponents want a commercial development on the site, rather than a residential one, which they worry will spur rent increases elsewhere in the neighborhood. [Curbed]
