The Second Phase Of The Massive Gallery Mall Redevelopment Is Underway
The total redevelopment of the Gallery mall in the Market East portion of Center City is entering its second phase, and its transformation will begin to be noticeable from the outside.
While the first portion of the 1.4M SF renovation was mainly concerned with selective internal demolition, the rest will include finishing the electrical and HVAC systems, as well as internal and external façades. Skanska USA Building and Shoemaker Construction will be collaborating on the project.
When it is finished (estimated in August 2018), the PREIT-owned complex will be rebranded as the Fashion Outlets of Philadelphia, just beside the incoming East Market mixed-use project. Until then, the area between Market and Filbert streets and 9th to 11th streets will be a locus for construction activity.
According to Skanska, the exterior of the new building will include "a new streamlined glass entrance, a continuous row of street-level accessible shops and high-tech digital signage."
Construction is slated to proceed in stages, allowing for portions of the complex to be occupied and for activity in the transportation hubs that use the space to continue.
