BASH Networking!
During networking, we snapped Kitchen and Associates’ Roger Keyser, Geno Schiavo, and Dan Garthe bookending CampusWorks Development’s Steve Helfrich (second from left). Roger says construction costs for student housing development—and not just materials—are much higher due to industry demand, forcing “a lot of value engineering” when designing projects. The architectural and engineering firm paired with The Michaels Org’s Student University Living subsidiary for the development of The View, a 718-bed, off-campus project for Baylor University opening this summer in Waco, Texas.
Here are Drexel University’s Steve Leesman and Paul Linderman with Bala Consulting’s Henry Hudson (who was “probably” named after the explorer) and Mortenson Construction’s Alex Brown at the post-conference BASH Bash. After the event, Steve and Henry were headed off to a Drexel trustees’ dinner to celebrate the grand opening of its 869-bed Chestnut Square, which ACC developed. (Today’s college students would say that BASH Bash was “pre-gaming.”) Alex tells us that Mortenson is currently building the new stadium for the Minnesota Vikings in partnership with the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority and Thor Construction. The $975M, 1.7M SF, multi-purpose stadium will replace the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis.
