Destination Resort For Pinal County?
Florida-based Block Sports Co. submitted plans recently with the city of Casa Grande for a 618-acre development called Dreamport Villages. The property would include an "Extreme Sports Park" called "The Block" that would include zip lines, rock climbing, go-karts and wakeboarding, reports the Phoenix Business Journal.
The development would include a 300-room resort hotel, an indoor water park, an animal-themed amusement park called "The Wild," and retail and restaurant space, all with a goal of being a destination attraction that is mostly lacking in Arizona. The Florida entity is under contract to buy the Casa Grande site in Pinal County, which is about an hour south of Phoenix.
None of the major theme park players (Disney, Universal Studios, Six Flags) has a presence in Arizona, though the new OdySea in the Desert near Scottsdale is planning a theme park. The proposal by Block Sports is going before the Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commission Thursday, reports ABC 15 Phoenix.
Block Sports is owned by Florida businessman Ron Segall. “The owner intends to develop a comprehensive Destination Resort best compared to that of the Disney World Resort in Orlando Florida,” according to plans submitted with Casa Grande.
