Circles Records & Tapes Building Demo Starts, Stops
Empire Commercial Development, an arm of Scottsdale-based Empire Group, began demolishing the former Circles Records & Tapes Building in Phoenix over the weekend, only to stop the process and issue an unusual statement voicing regret of the action. Previously, the company had said its redevelopment plans called for the exterior facade, other notable features and a building sign at Circles to be preserved, the Phoenix Business Journal reports.
“We sincerely apologize for what has taken place and look forward to getting back on track with a plan that may not make everyone entirely happy, but will undoubtedly raise the bar for preserving Phoenix history, not scraping it away,” the statement said. It isn’t clear what happens now. [PBJ]
