City Of Portland To Reduce Home Sizes, Promote Higher Density

A set of city proposals would allow developers to construct more duplexes, but would reduce the scale of homes in single-family areas in order to regulate infill development. Dubbed the Residential Infill Project, the new zoning rules will go before Portland City Council for approval in October, and can be viewed on the city’s website until then.

These changes come as a result of Portland’s recent surge in population growth coupled with a development boom, according to The Oregonian. The goal of the new zoning rules is to provide more realistic housing to make better use of Portland’s limited land. The zoning changes will allow developers to subdivide parcels to re-create historically narrow lots. [TO]
