Port Of Portland’s Last Container Service To Leave
The Port of Portland’s last remaining container shipping company, Westwood Shipping, has announced plans to leave the market at the end of the month. Westwood had previously cut back the frequency of its calls to just once per month.
Terminal 6 has seen a decline in incoming containers from ocean-going vessels from 330,000 in 2003 to 165,000 in 2014 to only 23,000 containers at the end of 2015, according to the Portland Business Journal. Both Hanjin Shipping and Hapag Lloyd shipping companies left the port in 2015. It's not the only Pacific port losing tenants this year. In January, the Port of Oakland lost a major tenant and announced plans to close its second-largest terminal. [PBJ]
