Oregon Tourism Spending Sets New Records
News to gladden the hearts of Oregon hotel owners and operators: In 2015, tourism spending in Oregon came in at $10.6B, an increase of 4.7% over the previous year's $10.3B, according to data from Travel Oregon, which markets the state to the world. The state did better than the national average in tourism growth last year, which was 4.5%.
The travel and tourism industry supports 105,600 jobs statewide, 4,000 more than in 2014, the largest increase since 2005, the Portland Business Journal reports. Overseas visitor counts in 2015 were up nearly 5% over 2014, with some markets, like China, showing double-digit growth. [PBJ]
