It's Official: Old Centennial Mills Building Is Coming Down
The Portland Development Commission has voted (narrowly) to tear down the old feed mill building at the Centennial Mills site. A 30-day delay is required since the vote was 3-2. The additional demolition tacks on another $1M, but still falls within the $13.7M budget for the demolition of various Centennial Mills structures at the redevelopment site.
The feed mill building, according to engineers, seems to have sunk into the ground about six inches, causing it to lean, the Portland Business Journal reports. The building sits on the existing seawall, which may be weakened when some of the wharf is removed and could cause the feed mill building to collapse into the river. [PBJ]
