Pacific Development Partners Interested In Wapato Jail Site
SoCal-based Pacific Development Partners has offered to buy Multnomah County's never-used Wapato Jail for $10M in cash. Both sides are currently mum on the details of the potential deal, including what kind of redevelopment the buyer has in mind, the Portland Business Journal reports.
The county built the jail in 2003 for $58M, but lack of revenues kept the facility from ever being used as a detention center. Last year, the idea of using it as homeless shelter was floated, but nothing came of that; there were other tentative offers to buy the jail that have come to naught as well.
The site is zoned for heavy industry. Any plans to redevelop it would have to be approved by the City of Portland as well as the Port of Portland.
