Portland Brewer Expanding Operations In Hawaii
Portland-based Craft Brew Alliance is planing to develop a $23M brewery for its Kona Brewing division in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The 30K SF facility will be able to brew as much as 100,000 barrels of Kona brand beer each year, the Portland Business Journal reports.
St. Louis-based ICC Turnkey will provide design and build services for the facility. The company specializes in brewery engineering and design, along with food and pharmaceutical industry projects.
The brewery will include a high-efficiency brewing system and canning line, as well as a wastewater treatment plant. Rooftop solar panels and a biogas system will generate power for use in the brewing and packing operation, according to the company.
The new facility will allow Kona Brewing to produce a liter of beer using only about three liters of water. The company said that is roughly 30% less than most breweries.
