Amazon Bringing Brick-And-Mortar Store To Washington Square Mall
Tigard’s Washington Square Mall will soon be home to one of Amazon’s brick-and-mortar bookstores, called Amazon Books. Previously, Amazon ranked Portland the second-most well-read city, trailing closely behind Seattle (where the firm opened its first physical store last year).
Barnes & Noble closed its Washington Square Mall location in 2012, reports the Portland Tribune. Amazon Books hopes to do better than its competitor by utilizing customer ratings and online sales data to determine which books to stock in stores. Amazon plans to open another Amazon Books at San Diego's Westfield University Towne Center mall. The company also is busy opening package pickup locations on college campuses. [PT]
