Among U.S. Cities, Portland One Of The Fastest Changing
Change can be subjective, but a recent study by Lending Tree aims to quantify how fast U.S. cities are changing — something it would behoove property owners and managers to know. Portland is No. 5 among American communities that have changed the most over the last five years.
Lending Tree crunched data from Zillow and AtoZDatabases, examining changes in the cost of homeownership, rents, foreclosure rates, business startups and population diversity. Three places in Oregon were among the top five nationwide for change: Bend at No. 1, Salem at No. 2 and Portland at No. 5. Filling out the top five were Napa, Calif., at No. 3, and Seattle at No. 4.
Bend has seen one of the most dramatic shifts in quality of living in recent years, including many new small businesses, transportation projects focused on walkers and bike riders, and a growing housing market. Change in Portland is being fueled by in-migration: as many as 100 people each day in recent years.
